A small Westminster shop built on hand tools, honest quotes and repairs that outlast the original construction.
How the Shop Started
Dawsonario Co. opened on West 73rd Place with two sewing machines, a finisher bought secondhand from a retiring cobbler in Pueblo, and a stack of leather stock that took up more room than the counter. The trade was already thinning out then. Most towns had lost their repair shops as footwear got cheaper and construction moved toward glued, unrepairable soles.
What kept us open was the pairs nobody else wanted to touch: welted dress shoes with rotted cork beds, ranch boots split at the vamp, hiking boots with delaminated midsoles from a decade of Front Range trails. Those repairs take patience and the right stitcher, and word travels when someone does them properly.
How We Work
Every job starts with an inspection at the counter. We look at construction type, upper condition, insole integrity and how the wear pattern is distributed — that last one tells us more about your gait than most people expect, and it often explains why one heel disappears twice as fast as the other.
Then you get a straight quote. If the repair costs more than the shoe is worth to you, we say so. If a $12 heel cap will buy you another two years, we'd rather sell you that and see you again than talk you into a rebuild you don't need.
Materials We Stand Behind
We stock Vibram rubber for traction and wet-weather wear, oak-tanned leather soling for dress shoes that should breathe, and neoprene cork for work boots that live on concrete. Thread is bonded nylon on structural seams. Adhesives are professional-grade contact cement, not the tube stock sold at hardware stores.
The Neighborhood
Westminster has changed a great deal since we opened — new neighborhoods off 104th, the Downtown Westminster build-out where the mall used to sit, and a lot more commuters heading to Boulder and Denver. What hasn't changed is that people here own boots they actually use. That keeps a cobbler busy.
